Understanding Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)

There seems to be a number of prevalent myths surrounding the condition of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). Many of these myths center on the notion that GAD is not a serious condition and that most people who suffer from it are weak minded. While such stereotypical notions are common, they are not even remotely accurate in terms of their ability to properly diagnose such a condition. GAD is far from a minor psychological hang up. It is a serious debilitating condition that affects millions of people.

What GAD Is

GAD is a form of chronic anxiety that centers on nervousness and worry. Specifically, someone that suffers from GAD will constantly and irrationally deal with bouts of fear, nervousness, and paranoia. These feelings can revolve and family, financial, and person related matters. Such feelings must persist for at least 6 months in order to fully fit the criteria for GAD.

When one suffers from GAD, there will be a tendency to suffer from a variety of symptoms. These symptoms can include drowsiness, lack of energy, irritability, forgetfulness, chronic insomnia, and other issues. In short, so much anxiety if weighing on the person’s mind that the psychological problem starts to manifest in physical ways. This is where the person suffers to the point common life activities are impeded.

In some cases, the sufferer of GAD may experience Post Traumatic Stress Disorder symptoms. This could include flashbacks of traumatic, anxiety inducing events. These intrusive flashbacks can greatly undermine the quality of the person’s life and lead to living a life far less beneficial than one would experience without dealing with GAD. This is why seeking treating for GAD is so important.

Treatment Options

The first step in treatment centers on receiving a proper analysis. Such an analysis is administered by a psychiatrist through a series of standardized tests. Once the psychiatrist arrives at the proper diagnosis, he/she will take the next treatment steps. This will usually involve being prescribed anti-anxiety medications intended to curtail the problem.

It is, however, important not to dismiss engaging in simple lifestyle changes to reduce anxiety. Playing sports, cleaning up one’s diet, taking part in hobbies that burn up excess tension can all have a calming and therapeutic. This is why they are considered so valuable.

Knowledge is the best treatment for anxiety. Ask a lot of questions and don't ever stop looking for the right answers. If you can find the cause of chronic anxiety and panic attacks, then your one step ahead of the monster, one step closer to eliminating it forever.

There was a time when all I could do was control the symptoms and lessen the panic attacks. I didn't like the medications and spent years looking for the medical cure only to find they only masked the underlying problem and created unwanted side effects. For me the cause was worse than the cure, so I dropped the medications and started the search for knowledge.

I feel the self help books were helpful in many ways as they put me on the road to knowledge and understanding as well they occupied my mind and offered a distraction from the anxiety. I personally found the answer to all of my questions through a program called PANIC AWAY that gave me back my freedom and put me on the road to personal comfort and happiness.

How to cure Anxiety

How to cure Anxiety

We work to understand our world but the reality of that is sometimes it is difficult and even painful. The “conscious will” attempts to avoid these difficulties by suppressing them. The “unconscious will” reminds the “conscious will” through a variety of symptoms like: pounding heart and palpitations, chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, intrusive thoughts, derealisation, the list goes on, that something is wrong. To a greater or lesser degree we all have difficulties to overcome, but overcome we must, so though hard work, effort and hopefully not too much pain, every individual will find balance of consciousness and comfort of mind and body.

Fear is conquered by action
When we challenge our fears, we defeat them.
When we grapple with our difficulties,
They lose their hold upon us.
When we dare to face the
Things which scare us,
We open the door to freedom.
